It's now the 21st century and our rapidly shrinking planet has no more time to live without 'peace of mind' or 'peace on Earth. A Game of Chants is a game of destiny played with a sense of inner peace, awareness of natural ecology and human togetherness.
Plato called it "The music of the spheres", a phenomenon since ancient times linking the nature of our universe to sound. Scriptures around the world say, "In the beginning was the word". Quantum physics claims "The universe began with a Big Bang". The current theory of science reveals, "At the core, everything is sound" or 'Shabd' as it's called in Gurmukhi (the language of the mantras on this album).
The foundation of sound is rhythm or taal. The entire universe moves in a rhythmic cycle; the galaxies, the suns, the moons, the planets, right down to the cells of life. The rhythms of the heart have inspired music throughout the ages and great music can heal the heart. This album is composed in a variety of very distinct heart rhythms.
Melody is a systematic variance in the rhythmic frequency of sound and it summons our moods and emotions. This album is freely composed in melodies that inspire our higher emotions.
Among all the senses the eyes care linked most strongly to the brain, the nose to the emotional memory, and our ears to the heart. This is why listening to music helps our relating heart to heart. The voice is a broadcast of who we are and what we are, but often times the mind and voice wander and chatter without meaning. Chanting brings this mind into focus on an affirmation, a mantra, therefore reducing the chatter and finding its peaceful center. Mantra is more about what the sounds do physiologically than what they mean intellectually. So whether you understand the words of not, they are understood at some level and science has proven they have a profound affect on mind and body. |
