During the cold war, collaborations between U.S. and Russian musicians were infrequent. Yet, in a rare act of solidarity, the Paul Winter Consort and the The Dimitri Pokrovsky Singers came together to create a compelling set of music. Each song on EARTHBEAT combines American jazz with Russian folk music. And along the way, other styles of music, such as Latin, seep into the mix too.
Recorded at Melodiya Studios, Moscow, Russia in March 1987; Cathedral Of St. John The Divine, Radio City Recording Studio and Manhattan Recording Company, New York, New York between April and June 1987. Includes liner notes by Paul Winter.
