MahaMaya features new interpretations of tracks from dj Cheb i Sabbah's groundbreaking 1999 release Shri Durga. It features all new mixes from the leading innovators of the Asian underground including State of Bengal, TJ Rehmi, Transglobal Underground, Bedouin Ascent, Fun Da Mental, dj Cheb i Sabbah, and more.

Shri Durga featured some of the greatest singers and instrumentalists in the northern Indian classical music tradition - musical giants of an ancient tradition who recorded specifically for Cheb i Sabbah's project. Instead of playing fast and loose with pre-existing music, Cheb i Sabbah created an organic synthesis of world music and modern electronica -- completely respectful, yet absolutely modern and full of deep, multi-layered grooves.

Even before Shri Durga was officially released, word got out to DJs around the world. Among them were some hottest remixers in London, where the dynamic Asian music scene has developed into one of the world's liveliest sources of modern dance music. Now, Mahamaya presents some of the beautiful songs from Shri Durga, filtered through the unique musical perspectives of six top DJs from the UK, as well as two remixes by Cheb i Sabbah himself.
