To remind him of the time when the world was white with ice and snow he made one in ten black bears white. The Spirit Bear, also known as the Kermode bear, is found on the central coast of British Columbia, Canada. This rare and elusive bear has become a symbol for environmentalists and preservation of natural ecosystems in Canada and abroad. As Thoreau said "In wildernesss is the preservation of the world"... as goes our natural world, so goes all life on the planet. Unique and precious, the Spirit Bear needs to be protected.
