An interfaith prayer for world peace...chants from the sacred traditions of Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Navaho are woven into one beautiful piece of music. A special re-release for 2003.
Once upon a time, God had a dream and in that dream...
Grandfather gathers the children around the fire for a story. The spirits of the Wolf, the Buffalo, the Eagle, and the Bear come to listen. Grandfather's voice rolls like the wind over the Great American Plains, the dried sweetgrass the instrument for his voice. He tells the story of how the ancestors came from the depths of the earth.
The Yogi sits in meditation. He experiences ecstasy and says, "Wah!" He realizes that God wanted to experience Himself and so created all: thus Wah became Wahe. Yet the creation wanted nothing more than to be reunited with the Creator, so God gave the creation Guru: that which brings one from darkness to light so that the creation could once again be the Creator. The Yogi says Wahe Guru and merges into Infinity.
The sun rises over the Mosque, golden light reflecting off turquoise mosaic. The fierce desert winds surround the temple, yet the people sing the praises of Allah fearlessly. The Mullah's voice echoes over the city to awaken people to the foundation of life: Allah, the One God, the Knower of Hearts, the Merciful.
Stained glass windows barely hold the sound in the cathedral. Human beings sing with the voices of angels, hearts filled with joy, singing, "Hallelujah!" The stone of the tall cathedral is warmed by the voices. People come from miles away just to listen.
The rabbi looks at his people seated around the table. The bread is broken, the Shabbos meal is eaten. Moved by the joy filling the room, the Rabbi gives thanks and begins singing Shalom. The people join in and sing in the cozy candlelit temple. The world watches from the window, wondering how so much joy could come from the hearts of so few.
For ages the same tune has been sung: Gopala Devakinandana Gopala. With bells in hand the people awaken Krishna every morning. The statue comes to life in their vision, dances and plays the flute. Enraptured with love they sing, dance, and let their tears fall on the temple floor.
The secrets of the Universe echo across the high Tibetan valley. The monks in deep crimson robes churn the sounds of the sacred mantra to fill the vastness, Om Mani Padme Hum. Butter lamps flicker gently with the breath of the voices chanting, chanting, chanting... bringing Peace to the planet now and forever.
The young girl bows her head at the threshold of the Golden Temple where millions of pilgrims have walked. Her soul rushes to the center of the temple where the praises of God are sung in enchanting Raag. The sound penetrates her being, whispering the sacred mantra Sa Ta Na Ma. It becomes her heartbeat from that moment onward and she rejoices as she is healed from within. With the turning of life, the little girl becomes an old woman. She cradles her grandchildren and tells them with all her love that God is in Every Heart.
...And with that, God awoke from on of his best dreams, and smiled. |
